SUNRISE
Sunrise

SUNRISE is an EU-funded project that aims to facilitate active collaboration among critical infrastructure (CI) operators across Europe to share best practices and jointly address future pandemics.

The project, comprising a group of 4 supervisory authorities, 16 operators, 3 other actors in the field, 4 experts in social sciences and humanities, 2 experts in epidemiology and extreme weather events, and 12 security researchers and software developers, will carry out the following:

  1. Identify vital services and critical infrastructure in a pandemic, their dependencies, risks, cascading effects, and effective measures to address them at the European level.
  2. Develop a comprehensive strategy and four innovative tools to ensure greater availability, reliability, security, robustness, dependability, cost-effectiveness, climate friendliness, and continuity of vital services during a pandemic in Europe.
  3. Demonstrate the results in operational environments to address some of the weaknesses exposed by the current pandemic.
  4. Promote this approach across Europe to ensure a united front and the resilience of critical infrastructures in the face of pandemics.

To achieve the project's objectives, SUNRISE is organizing national meetings with operators and supervisory authorities of critical infrastructures participating in the project in three different countries: Italy, Slovenia, and Spain.

In this regard, the National Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CNPIC) is actively participating in working groups concerning the collaboration of critical infrastructure providers and the awareness and resilience strategy for these critical infrastructures, as it is responsible for overseeing the protection of critical infrastructures in the national territory. Similarly, the CNPIC will participate in the validation of the SUNRISE strategy and will support the adjustment of the project's continuity plans.
